GAP Insurance
Guaranteed Asset Protection Insurance, also known as GAP Insurance, is very important to have when you purchase or lease a car. Standard comprehensive and collision auto policies only cover your new car's fair market value. Since a new vehicle depreciates starting the minute you drive it off the dealers lot, it insures you for the difference between what you owe on your car and what your insurance company says it is worth if the vehicle was totaled or stolen.

For example, you buy a car for $30,000 and finance the entire amount.  In a few months, that car might only be worth $24,000.  If the car was a total loss, your insurance company will only pay you $24,000, which is what the car was currently worth and you’d owe the difference of $6,000 to the lender.  By purchasing GAP Insurance along with your new car, it guarantees you not to have to pay the difference out of pocket.  The insurance covers the cost for you.
