Congressional Federal Credit Union History – A Proud Past, A Bright Future.  

On July 9, 1953, eight congressional employees, with just $40 in deposits, formed the credit union that would later become Congressional Federal. From its humble beginnings in the Longworth HOB, Congressional Federal has grown its members to over 45,000. 

In 2013 Congressional Federal's 60th anniversary reminded us of just how far we’ve come with the help of loyal members, dedicated volunteers and hard-working staff. From a single desk drawer to a modern, full-service institution, Congressional Federal today offers financial services that its founders only dreamed were possible. Online and mobile banking, shared branches, nationwide ATM networks, mortgages and home equity loans, financial investments, insurance and credit cards— these are but a few of the products and services that we’ve added since 1953.

Through the years, Congressional Federal has remained true to its proud beginnings, always endeavoring to serve its members with integrity and striving to give back to the Capitol Hill community that makes it all possible. Our future is indeed bright. We look forward to continually innovating and improving to better serve you in the next 60 years!

VISION:

We will provide innovative and affordable financial products and services, education, and community outreach of the highest quality within the Congressional FCU family which includes the House of Representatives, Congressional support offices and functions on Capitol Hill, in addition to affinity and non-affinity Select Employment Groups.

MISSION:

Congressional Federal’s mission is to provide basic financial services to all of our members with special emphasis on the deliverance of services to those in our field of membership who may lack financial mobility.

CFCU products and services are designed to empower members to take control of their financial future.

CFCU designs products and services to meet the needs of our members as they begin to achieve financial independence.
